There are no operational dog tracks in Vietnam. Greyhound racing remains legal, however, as a prohibition has not yet passed into law.
Greyhound racing in Vietnam took place at the Lam Son Stadium in Vung Tau for over twenty years, but thankfully the track lost its license in March 2023.1 In 1999, Sports and Entertainment Services Ltd (SIS) had been granted a twenty-five year license to open and operate the facility and the first race was held on May 6, 2000.2 *SIS is reportedly looking to reintroduce racing at a new location.
Originally imported from Australia, greyhounds were housed and trained at a kennel complex fifty minutes from the track.3 As many as 750 to 800 greyhounds came to be bred and trained at the Ba Ria Breeding Center each year.4 A kennel caretaker told GREY2K USA Worldwide Board Member Charmaine Settle in 2012 that there had never been an adoption program and that no dog ever got out alive.5
